Rick Warren Reaches Out to Islam for Peace

On November 13, 2006, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported as follows in an article, American priest says no peace without Syria:

“American Protestant Pastor Rick Warren on Monday said there was no peace in the region without Syria, noting that 80 percent of the American people rejected what the US Administration is doing in Iraq and considered the US policy in the Mideast as wrong.

“Syria’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Badr al-Din Hassoun received the American Pastor in Damascus in which he referred to the importance of spreading culture of amity, peace and coexistence instead of the 'clash of civilizations'.

“The Mufti called for conveying the real image of Syria, national unity and its call to spread peace, amity and justice to the American people which the US administration has distorted their image before the world.

“Pastor Warren expressed admiration of Syria and the coexistence he saw between Muslims and Christians, stressing that he will convey this image to his church and country.”

Warren and his delegation also interviewed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to discuss relations between Syria and the USA.

The approach followed by Rick Warren on his mission to Damascus is an alarming move by a so-called evangelical leader, but it underscores his dominionist objective of establishing a manmade peace on earth before the second coming of Jesus Christ. Warren already made it clear that the participants in his PEACE Plan could also be Muslims if they are leaders of villages and communities that need to be transformed. He now takes it one step further by seeking peaceful relations with Islam and blindly accepting the pretended positive intentions of a radical Islamic state which has, for many years, been harboring and sponsoring terrorists against Israel and the West. Syria does not even pursue peace in the Islamic world and defiantly continues to undermine the government and people of its neighbor, Lebanon.

Rick Warren fully endorses the false pretensions of Islam by being more than willing to take the Grand Mufti’s message back home that Syria promotes “a culture of amity, peace and coexistence.” Warren is not the only leader from the West who has fallen victim to Islam’s false propaganda. In his newsletter, Berean Call of November 2006 (p. 3-4), Dave Hunt says the following:

“The pope’s inexcusable apology for ‘offending’ Muslims with the truth is a further example of how the West continues to be intimidated by Muslim threats and encourages their hypocritical denial to themselves and to the world of the horrible truth about Islam. Muslims ought to be ashamed that their ‘god’ promises rewards in Paradise for murdering innocent women and children.

“One would be hard pressed to find terrorism anywhere in the world for which Islam and Muslims are not responsible. Yet they persist with their incredible lie equating Islam with peace and threaten anyone who tells the truth: ‘If you dare criticize Islam as a religion of violence, we will kill you to prove that it is a religion of peace!’

“The shameful fact that Western leaders from Bush to Blair to Chirac to Billy Graham to the pope keep on praising Islam as a religion of peace because of such threats is a betrayal of their responsibility. This surrender to Islam’s blackmail will inevitably result in the complete Islamization of the Western world with the loss of the freedoms we hold dear. In fact, Islamization has already reached the point of no return in Europe and especially in Britain – and the US is not far behind...

“We are engaged in a war to the death – not against terrorists and extremists who, as President Bush insists, have ‘hijacked a peaceful religion,’ but with Islam itself – a fact that the West refuses to acknowledge. The ‘politically correct’ lies, so popular in the West, must be abandoned. We are losing this war and will continue to do so until the West faces the truth that our enemy is not terrorism perpetrated by Muslim ‘extremists’ but the violent religion if Islam itself...

“The Qur’an, which Muhammad claimed he received by revelation from Allah through the angel Gabriel, has more than 100 verses commanding the use of violence and slaughter to take over the world, such as: ‘Slay the idolaters [i.e., all who reject Allah as the only god and Muhammad as his prophet] wherever ye find them... besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush’ (Surah 9:5).” (End of quotation)

The Islamic faith has the potential to radicalize people by justifying violent means of imposing the Qur’an upon ‘infidels.’ We must not be fooled by the false fronts of peace and amity which they present to their enemies while winning time to strengthen themselves for a future armed struggle which they regard as inevitable. If Islam had any potential of realizing peaceful coexistence, they have the opportunity now to apply it to the violent conflict that has erupted between the Sunni and Shiite factions of their faith – particularly in Iraq.

Rick Warren’s peace overtures with Islam will obviously be hailed by millions of people who have been equally deceived by ecumenical and interfaith thinking, fanned by Islamic propaganda that Muslims wish to be partners with the West in promoting global peace. There will be no peace on earth before the coming of the Prince Peace, who will dismantle the strongholds of deception on earth. Jesus is not a human prophet of Allah, as Islam insists, but God the Son, who is co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

Islam completely rejects the deity of Jesus Christ, and therefore rejects the only true Prince of Peace. What point is there in presuming that Christians can join hands with them to establish peace on earth? What sort of peace will this be? Islam clearly wants to deceive and demoralize the West so that they should retreat and stop opposing them. That will allow Islam to proceed unhindered to impose the will of Allah and his prophet Mohammad on the whole world – not only by religious propaganda but also by force, intimidation and subversion.

When Rick Warren and his team embarked on the road to Damascus they obviously didn’t pause to consider the role that Jesus Christ would have in their efforts to establish peaceful relations with Syria. After all, Warren is a Christian religious leader whose first and major obligation is to proclaim the peace that Christ alone can give to sinful and lost humanity on condition that they forsake their evil ways, repent and accept Him as the only Messiah and Savior of the world (Acts 4:12). He said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you” (John 14:27). How can a clergyman discuss peace with the religious and political leaders of a hostile, pagan nation without any mention of the Prince of Peace who also shed His blood on the cross as atonement for the sins of the Syrians?  (Prof. Johan Malan).
